When a beloved animal companion passes, the grief, the guilt and the huge emptiness we are left with is heartbreaking. One of the most powerful ways to deal with the loss of a beloved pet is to connect with the spirit of the deceased pet.
It is for this purpose that I have developed the Sacred Spirit Journey which is a variation of a Shamanic Journey.
In addition to using journeys to connect with the pets in my own life, I have used journeys for many years to connect grieving humans with their pets in the afterlife.
In this blog post I will share an example of one of these Sacred Spirit Journeys: A journey I did to connect with Sherry Hayden’s angel cat Bonnie. May Bonnie’s beautiful message bring you peace and comfort today.

As I begin the Sacred Spirit Journey to connect with Bonnie the angel cat on behalf of her human companion, I feel drawn into my heart center. A beam of light, a loving invitation to connect, goes out to Bonnie and finds her sitting, looking at us, accepting the invitation.
Bonnie is friendly, almost ‘regal’ in her ways. She calmly rests in confidence and peace as she starts walking slowly towards us, taking her time. It feels like an honor when she comes and rubs against my leg.
I greet Bonnie warmly. She answers with a beautiful meow.
Bonnie says:
“Be at peace, for all is well. Feel no guilt or regret, for I chose the way to pass that I deemed would cause you least pain. There is no need to dwell on the last days, but let me instead take you to a place of healing. I am okay now, but you need peace and comfort, and I can help you.
I was your companion when I was alive, and I can still be your companion in spirit. Let the peace that I bring, heal and ease you into a new-found way of living with the joy that I brought and still share with you in spirit.
To connect 1with me, go to a place where we spent much time together, and call on me there, for I am always close. Just as I rested in the present moment, practice allowing yourself to enter the Now with trust.”
Marianne: “Thank you. You mentioned you would take us to a place of healing?”
Bonnie turns around and leads, as my spirit guide and I follow behind. We come to a place where we have a beautiful view out over a landscape, as if we’re high up in the sky, looking down on the land and sea far below. Space, beauty, freedom.
Bonnie says:
“Take a step back from your daily life and your grief; go to a place of beauty, and get perspective on your life. See that there’s still so much beauty and love. The peace you feel here is what I bring and offer as my gift to you.”
A white owl comes flying [and at exactly the same time an owl begins hooting in ordinary reality, right outside the room where I am doing the journey – it is rare that happens!]
Owl says:
“I am the messenger from beyond, and through feathers and from birds you may experience a connection with your cat in the beyond. Allow the magic and mystery into your life. We are bringing you blessings and love from beyond. All you need to do is open your heart and invite the light in that’s on the way.”
Owl flies away again but leaves a beautiful white feather with us. Bonnie gets excited and happy.
Bonnie says:
“I’ll bring this feather to Sherry right away so she knows I’m near. She knows I love her and all the others, but I would like to ease their grief by showing them I’m near.
Tell her not to dismiss the signs she knows in her heart I am sending.
Much love, now and forever.”
She then runs off with the feather to deliver it.
I thank Bonnie as I wave goodbye. I thank my spirit guide and end the journey.
As I mentioned, there was a powerful synchronicity during this journey: an owl began hooting outside in physical reality during the journey and the owl’s hooting stopped just as the journey ended – and it is rare that I hear owls where I live. This was a beautiful and powerful confirmation of the connection with Bonnie.
