Losing a beloved animal companion is heartbreaking and the grief that follows difficult to cope with. I have loved and lost animal friends of my own, and one of the things I found most helpful in getting peace after pet loss is connecting with the animal in the afterlife.
For example, when my beloved cat Kia died all alone at the animal hospital in 2012 and I felt deep grief and much guilt, the only thing that helped me get peace of mind was to connect with Kia in the afterlife – to hear if she was okay and if she could forgive me. To do this I developed the Sacred Spirit Journey, which is a form of shamanic journey that includes my Sacred Spirit Writing technique.
I have done journeys for many clients and brought back healing messages from their beloved pets, and I am pleased to be able to share here a Sacred Spirit Journey for Cynthia’s angel cat Daisy. About five years before I did this Journey, Daisy had gone missing for several weeks. Daisy made it back home to Cynthia, although she was in poor shape when she arrived. Fortunately, Cynthia was able to nurse Daisy back to health.
You can both listen to and read Daisy’s message below.

As I begin the Sacred Spirit Journey to connect with Daisy, what strikes me right away is the stillness. Stillness all around. I sink into the stillness and the silence. The inner and outer seem to blend more easily in the stillness.
I restate my intention to meet Cynthia’s angel cat, Daisy.
As I center in my heart, I can feel right away that today we won’t be using the heart as a portal or way of connecting. The moment I realize that, I feel drawn to my feet.
I imagine myself having bare feet, and immediately I feel my feet are touching grass.
I’m in a beautiful open nature landscape with meadows.
I am walking among the wildflowers, and Daisy comes running towards me from the left side.
She is healthy, happy, strong, and greets me warmly, and says:
“Hello, it’s good you could come.”
We see Cynthia come walking towards us, and Daisy runs to her and greets her affectionately.
“Thank you for setting my spirit free. My body had been struggling for a while, but I had to wait until you were ready.
You did the right thing.
And you know what? You’re stronger than you think. You can make it through this grief, and you can make it without me, especially when you realize that in your heart, we are never apart. In your heart, we are roaming these wide meadows, enjoying the wildflowers, the wind, the sun, the infinite sky.
Let me help you explore what’s awaiting just outside our little world. Magic, wonder await.
You’ll find it quite new.”
With that, she stops speaking and runs off deeper into the meadow, and after a while comes walking back, proudly carrying a mouse in her mouth. She puts the mouse before Cynthia.
“A gift from me to you”, Daisy says,” smiling.
Cynthia laughs and watches as the little mouse scurries away, and says: “It’s okay. Let him live.”
We sit down in the meadow, Cynthia holding Daisy.
Daisy says:
“I am so grateful for the years we had together. Thank you for being my constant companion, for loving me, for caring for me. I have many fond memories I will always treasure.
You know I talked about exploring. Many wonderful adventures and magic follow when you dare explore.
As you know, we Main Coon cats like to explore. As with everything in life, there’s a risk when you dare live fully and freely. I almost didn’t make it back to you the time I went missing, but by God’s Grace, we were reunited, and you helped me heal.
Count your blessings. Once you begin, you’ll realize that you can keep going.
Share your love whenever you can. It’s needed. When you feel down, take comfort in your animal family, who are all ready to support you. You are never alone.
When you want to meet me, just do like we did now. Imagine your bare feet touching the earth. What are you standing on? What do the surroundings look like?
What landscape am I invited into on this this day?
Embrace your adventurous spirit, and let your imagination free.
I am close in your sadness; I’m close in your joy.
I shine my light for you, so you can find your way.
Our journey together is not over.
It’s time for you to return home, my sweet friend.”
Cynthia bends down, hugs and kisses Daisy, and thanks her for everything. “I’ll miss you more than you can ever know”, she says.
“I do know”, Daisy says, “and I’m right here. Be at peace and use this season of light to celebrate our life together. We have so much to celebrate, don’t you think?”
“Indeed”, Cynthia says, “I will. Thank you, my love.”
They say a warm goodbye. Dairy disappears among the flowers and the grass.
Cynthia is more at peace, and walks calmly home, taking it all in. The beauty around her fills her heart. “See you, Daisy,” she says.
I give thanks and end the journey.
