When a beloved animal companion dies, it sometimes happens suddenly and unexpectedly, but occasionally we are fortunate to get the opportunity to support and care for our animal friend as they pass in their own time in a way that is peaceful. But even when a pet’s death is peaceful and happens in a ‘natural’ way, it’s still incredibly difficult for us humans to cope with, and not an easy process at all.
On December 6, 2017, my beloved cat Minnie made her transition after a long journey. She was very determined that her passing should be on her own terms, being at home with us and passing in her own time.
I communicated with her many times during the last period and she even guided us a lot on how to cope and how to best support her.
In the following I will share a message from her that I received 3 months before her passing. She knew already then that her time with us in her physical form was coming to an end.
You can both listen to and read Minnie’s message below.
This is what Minnie said in her message to me:
”Help me hold the space of ‘surrender’. Just like a flower bud slowly unfolds its petals and opens up into full bloom, so allow my soul to bloom it its own time and in its own way – as the flower of my soul blooms in spirit.
Let go of resistance and fear and see beyond what you see when you look at my physical me. Beyond the frail physical form is the shining light that wants to shine.
The light that I always was, I still am – now more and more in spirit.
Another way I focus is through your voice and touch. Talk to me, sing to me, touch me, and I will respond with the love that I feel for you. [Note: Minne was blind in the last period of her life] Your love guided me through these past years. Let it guide me into spirit as well.
My love for you and the shining light that I am, will shine on you from beyond soon, as it has been shining on you till now. Look beyond to see my true self, and let the way in be through surrendering to the present moment. Love and gratitude.”
This was my beloved cat Minnie beautiful message for us. I hope that her message may comfort and inspire you if you have an animal friend that is dying.
Notice particularly her suggestions about surrendering and letting go of resistance. They served as powerful reminders for my husband and I as we were supporting Minnie during her last period with us, and I hope you will find her words helpful too.
