[“I will love you until the end of time” ~angel dog Pixie]
Losing a beloved animal companion is heartbreaking and the grief that follows difficult to cope with. I have loved and lost animal friends of my own, and one of the things I found most helpful in getting peace after pet loss is connecting with the animal in the afterlife.
For example, when my beloved cat Kia died all alone at the animal hospital in 2012 and I felt deep grief and much guilt, the only thing that helped me get peace of mind was to connect with Kia in the afterlife – to hear if she was okay and if she could forgive me. To do this I developed the Sacred Spirit Journey, which is a form of shamanic journey that includes my Sacred Spirit Writing technique.
I have done journeys for many clients and brought back healing messages from their beloved pets, and I am pleased to be able to share, in the following, a Sacred Spirit Journey for Gianna’s angel dog Pixie.
You can both listen to and read Pixie’s message below.

December 24th, 2022 – Christmas Eve
As soon as I begin the Sacred Spirit Journey to connect with Pixie, I get an image of a tiny hummingbird flying around. I feel it has a strong connection to Pixie. As usual, I begin the journey by becoming present here where I am, easing into the present moment and the place I am in. Listening to the sounds around me.
I focus on Pixie’s name, repeating it several times.
At first there is an awareness of the name and her presence all around me. I center with her name in my heart center, and there is an instant feeling of ‘coming home’.
Pixie is definitely a ‘heart dog’. She has so much love to give, and she thrives in the love she receives.
“It’s true”, I hear Pixie say. She is in my heart center with me, eager to get out in the heart landscape. The landscape familiar from so many previous journeys: A beautiful beach, crystal clear blue sky, fresh air, vast sea glittering in the sunlight.
Pixie runs out on the beach, happy and full of energy. She stops, breathes in the sea air and doesn’t cough.
“No”, she says. “I don’t cough, for I am well now.”
I keep seeing the little hummingbird flying around near Pixie.
“That’s my friend. She is not only beautiful on the outside, but within as well. Just like my mom.”
We see Gianna come out on the beach, looking around with curiosity. She smiles as she sees Pixie, and in such great shape. Pixie runs to Gianna and smiles at her with a joy that is contagious. It is a warm reunion.
“You really do look well, my precious one”, Gianna says.
Pixie says:
“I am very much so, my sweet friend.
Thank you for everything you did for me. You cared for me so lovingly and so deeply. You did well, considering the fear and the suffering that ran deep in me because of my challenging past.
What I prefer to focus on is the love we shared – and still share, and on the gift we were given when we became family.
You saved me, you gave me a home, and you loved me unconditionally with all your heart. I can never explain how deep my gratitude is to you for holding me in your love just as I needed it most.
You stood by me through it all. The mistakes that were made were not by you. You trusted those who were supposed to know.
Listen to the experts, but never forget to listen to your heart. Trust that beautiful heart of yours, especially that deep place in the heart that goes beyond the fear. The place that holds the courage you sometimes need.
Listen to your courageous heart. I know you can do it.”
Pixie looks around and out over the sea into the distance. She then turns to Gianna and says:
“You gave me a good life, just as you intended to.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will treasure all our fun and fond moments together, and keep them with me forever.
I know I had much fear and many health challenges, but I also had joy, love and a never-ending gratitude for taking me in and giving me a home.
I couldn’t have asked for more.
You were my life, my love, my best friend, and I will love you till the end of time.
So be at peace now and walk home without a worry in the world, for I am doing great, and we are doing great.”
Gianna gives Pixie a hug, while the hummingbird is flying around. Hummingbird lands on Gianna’s hand and says to her:
“I will be visiting you to remind you to embrace joy, to see the beauty that is in the world and in your heart. I teach you that you are capable of so much more than you think.
Call on me, and I will be by your side.
Many blessings to you.”
Gianna says:
“How lucky I am to have two such good friends. Thank you both for all your love and your wisdom. I will never forget you. Be well my friends. I have confidence I will see you again.”
“Indeed you will”, they both say.
Pixie and Hummingbird stay at the beach, sending Gianna off with much love.
As Gianna leaves, Pixie says:
“Just call on me when you need me, and I’ll be by your side.”
Gianna smiles, touches her heart with her hand, and waves with the other to Pixie.
As Gianna walks home, she is at peace.
I ask my spirit guide if there is anything else we need to do.
He says: “No, they are hanging out here a while. They are fine and safe.”
Pixie says:
“When the stars come out, we will visit Gianna and send her a blessing from the light”.
I say goodbye, give thanks and end the journey.
