When a beloved animal companion passes, the grief, the guilt and the huge emptiness we are left with is heartbreaking. One of the most powerful ways to deal with the loss of a beloved pet is to connect with the spirit of the deceased pet.
It is for this purpose that I have developed the Sacred Spirit Journey which is a variation of a shamanic journey. In addition to using journeys to connect with the pets in my own life, I have used journeys for many years to connect grieving humans with their pets in the afterlife.
I did a series of journeys connecting with Melissa before her passing, and during those journeys, Melissa and her human found their sacred spirit meeting place of the heart. The journey that follows took place two days before Christmas Eve 2017, about one month after Melissa had passed. In the following, I will share a Sacred Spirit Journey with a beautiful healing message, which I received from Cynthia’s angel dog Melissa about a month after her passing.
You can both listen to and read Melissa’s message below.

As I begin the Sacred Spirit Journey to connect with the angel dog Melissa, I find myself in a nature landscape at night. My spirit guide is with me, carrying a little lantern with a light in.
We get close to that special place – the sacred garden – that Melissa and Cynthia have been meeting in previously, during the time when Melissa was preparing for her own passing.
We walk into the garden and go to their bench. Suddenly, Melissa is there. She jumps up on the bench and greets us warmly.
“Blessings to you and much love. Thanks for coming.” Melissa says. She looks around and sees Cynthia walking around in the garden. Cynthia hasn’t yet seen Melissa, so Melissa barks to get Cynthia’s attention. Cynthia sees Melissa and comes and joins us. A happy reunion.
Melissa and Cynthia sit together. Cynthia says with love and gratitude as she looks at Melissa: “You look good.”
Melissa says:
“I’m fine, so you don’t have to worry about me.
During this time, don’t resist or struggle with the grief, but simply allow it to be there. It’s a natural process of adjusting to losing a loved one in their physical form and getting used to connecting with them in spirit.
It’s all about going within the heart and finding the peace and sacred space there where our light shines.
A simple daily practice of meditation, gratitude and presence will help you. Just take it day by day.
Return to our previous spirit meetings and my messages [note: from the period before Melissa’s passing], and let them comfort you as well.
Don’t resist this time of celebration, because you don’t think there’s anything to celebrate. We have so much to celebrate, don’t we?
We shared so much love. That’s something to celebrate. Let this Christmas be a celebration, of my life, of our time together, of our bond – that indestructible bond from your heart and soul to mine.
Light a candle for me, and take a walk where you invite me to join you. Share with me the beauty you see there and allow me to experience it with you.
Ease into trust now and know that I am near.
I am always by your side when you need me, and my light shines steadily in your heart.
When life is tough, go within your heart and find me there.
Each light you see, each star in the sky – they send a blessing from me to you.
Let yourself be at peace now.
All is well.”
They sit in stillness in their special sacred place, and peace settles on Cynthia’s heart.
As it becomes time to say goodbye, Melissa says:
“Thank you so much for joining me here. Come anytime, and I will meet you.
My love is yours forever.”
Melissa transforms into a light, flies up, and joins the other stars in the sky.
Cynthia smiles and remain in their spirit garden for a while before going back inside.
We say goodbye and I end the Journey.

I found myself facing the passing of one of my family of animals, an elderly tiny Yorkie named Melissa. A very special, characterful personality. She had reached the great age of 17 but was failing. Living alone, I found the situation very difficult. I knew that Marianne offered a service of support; Healing Pet Loss, with journeys and insight into the spiritual feelings of the sick animal reaching the end of it’s life; or already passed over, and indeed pets that may have died suddenly. I decided to request this service for Melissa and myself and could not have had a more thorough, compassionate and helpful guidance than I did from Marianne.
Each day I had information and help on my little dog’s feelings, any fears or in Melissa’s case, her acceptance and gratitude of the situation and the happy life we had shared. Her loss was and is, heartbreaking, sad and hard but in all honesty it would have been far worse to have faced it without the help from Marianne. I would certainly recommend her to anyone suffering the loss or about to lose, a much cherished pet.
