Are you having trouble sleeping after the death of a pet? If so, you are not alone. The overwhelming feelings of grief after the loss of your pet can be difficult to handle.
Many of us are so busy during the day, that while we experience waves of grief as we go about our daily business after pet loss, we usually manage to push our feelings down to a certain degree so we can do the things we need to do.
Having trouble sleeping after pet loss
That becomes clear as soon as we go to bed and try to fall asleep. When there are no more distractions or chores to be done, all the feelings of loss, grief, sadness, guilt and emptiness come pouring in. Memories of all the good times we had with our pet, and the realization that we will never experience those happy moments with our pet again. Feelings of guilt and regret over things we wish we had done differently. “If only I had acted differently, then my pet would probably be alive now”. And so on.
You might lie awake for hours, tossing and turning, and be even more exhausted the following morning.
Even under normal circumstances, you can feel how weakened emotionally and physically you are, if you don’t get proper sleep. Then imagine what sleeplessness does to you when you are also suffering the loss of your pet.
Making sure to get rest and relaxation
Taking care of yourself and making sure you get proper sleep and rest is important after the death of a pet. With a decent nights sleep, you will be better equipped to cope with the strain of grief and to proceed with the healing process.
Meditation to help you get better sleep after pet loss
The practices of meditation and deep relaxation are well known to relieve stress and provide relaxation. Meditation in the morning before starting your day will help you be more relaxed, focused and present during your daily activities.
But if you are having trouble sleeping after the loss of a pet, then meditation or deep relaxation done in the evening just before you you are about to sleep, can help you get calm enough to actually fall asleep and get some decent rest. That is my personal experience.
If you want to try it for yourself, you can use my Inner Peace Meditation which you can get through the link below:
