Invitation to the Pinterest Pet Memorial Board

Invitation to Pet Memorial Board Remembering and Celebrating Our Pets On Pinterest

Have you lost a beloved pet? Let’s connect on Pinterest to remember and celebrate our pets.

Pinterest Pet Memorial Board

I have created the Pet Memorial Board on www.pinterest.com/healingpetloss. This is a community board which means that you can contribute by pinning your best memorial photos to the board. I invite you to come over and share pictures and memories of the pet you have lost.

I have kickstarted the Pet Memorial Board by putting up a photo of my orange cat Pittiput whom I lost in 2010 after a long illness. And Rumi, a Manx cat, whom I lost in 2004, when his life was ended suddenly and tragically by a car.

Why use Pinterest to memorialize our pet?

The obvious reason is PHOTOS. We all want to show others how amazing and beautiful our pet is. The pet loss forums and message board we find on the internet are great for talking with people – share words of loss, comfort, and support. “One picture is worth a thousand words” , and The Pet Memorial Board is a place where we can be more visual – share our love, grief and loss through photos, inspirational quotes, etc. A way to keep the vision our pet has given us. (See also, Using Pinterest to cope with the death of a pet).

Watermark?

This is a public board on Pinterest, so you may wish to “watermark” photos of your pet, as others may re-pin them. A watermark in this case means a short text (or photo credit) you place at an appropriate place on the photo. You can watermark your photos manually in a photo editing program, such as mspaint.exe which comes with Windows. Those of you who have a WordPress site can use a WordPress plugin which can automatically watermark photos that you upload to your website. A simple and fast way to watermark photos is by using an online photo editor such as Pixlr Express or Pic Monkey (both of these require a flash player to function).

What can you share on the Pet Memorial Board?

Various photos and images related to the pet you have loved and lost.

For instance:

  • a photo of your pet
  • a photo of your pet’s favorite place
  • an image with a short poem or letter you have written to or about your pet
  • a drawing or painting of your pet
  • you can also share what you have done to cope with the loss, so that others might benefit and get inspiration in their grief. Make a note either on the image, or in the description below the image of the things you have done that helped you cope with the grief after pet loss.

Be creative. Keep all pins on topic – and real. Remember, this is a memorial board for those who have lost their pet. Choose your pins carefully. Choose a few photos with brief texts that speak to the viewer, and speak from your heart. Be careful of redundant or irrelevant pins. Let us support and inspire each other in remembering and celebrating our deceased pets.
