When we are grieving the loss of a pet, there are many ways in which we can express our feelings as well as share our stories and our love for the pet we have lost. Some of the known ways are writing, drawing or painting.
A traditional and time-honored way of commemorating, honoring and celebrating our deceased pet is creating a collage of photos and memorabilia, so we feel a connection with our pet by looking at it. It has recently become very easy to create a digital collage on-line and also share our sentiments with others. However, we now have access to a new and exciting way of sharing pictures and stories about our pet with other people. And that is Pinterest.
As I am writing this, Pinterest is still fairly new, so while you have probably heard of it, you might not be using it yet. Pinterest is a virtual pinboard which lets users organize things they like, such as images and videos, and share them with others. The images or videos you upload, or repin from someone else’s board, are called pins, and they can be grouped into boards (as in pinboard), which are sets of pins focused on a specific topic.
Examples of how to use Pinterest after the death of a pet
You can for instance create a board dedicated to your deceased pet and on the board share
- photos of your pet
- a photo collage you have made of your pet
- a short video of your pet
- a quote that touches you and reminds you of your pet
- photos of places, toys etc. that your pet liked.
If you are uploading your own photos etc., it is a good idea to put a watermark or copyright notice on them, since they are likely to be re-pinned by others. Animal photos are very popular on Pinterest and you will find many beautiful (and cute) animal photos there, which you may re-pin to your own boards, and other people can Like and re-pin your pins.

Pretty good post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts and i will definitely share it with my other friends.
What a great idea! I’d never thought of using Pinterest this way. I make handblown glass pet cremation jewelry and always ask my customers to send me some photos of their pet so I can get a feel for their personality. After reading your article, I plan to recommend Pinterest as an even better alternative.
Sounds like a good idea. Pictures of your beautiful glass pendants and marbles are perfect for Pinterest, and sharing pictures of pets there is not only easy, it’s also very popular.
Thanks so much for this helpful and informative article, Marianne! You’ve gotten me interested in this new (to me, anyway!) form of social media, and I’m hooked! Your boards are wonderful, most especially your Quotes, Cuties, Garden, and Flowers, as well as the one for Pet Loss. Just wanted you to know that I’ve mentioned you on Twitter, and I’ve re-pinned several of your lovely selections today!
Thanks, Marty. I especially like that Pinterest is so easy to use (and all the beautiful pictures there are, of course).
