When your beloved pet is dying

When your pet is dying
Pittiput’s last day.

Being in the situation where you know your pet is dying is very difficult and challenging. You are probably experiencing a wide range of emotions such as:

  • despair, fear of losing the pet you love so much
  • a desire to do something to help your pet get better, or at least not suffer
  • helplessness, when you realize that your pet is dying, and there is nothing more you can do to to help him. Or is there?

At this stage, when death is close, what your pet needs most is you.

Sometimes we so desperately want to help and prevent our pet from dying, that we keep doing things, like numerous vet visits and medication, trying to get our pet to be active, etc.

And all that is fine, for there are a lot of things you can do to care for your pet and ease his suffering. But in between, take time to just be with your pet, sit with him and feel the bond and the love between you. Let him know you are there for him.

That is hard to do sometimes, because part of us is often in denial of the fact that he is dying. It is just too painful.

Actually, you are grieving, and that’s okay.

Allow yourself to feel the way you do, and take time to just be with your pet.

It will help make this last period you have together with your pet more peaceful for him as well as for you.
