Widening The Circle Of Compassion – A Meeting With Deer

Deer - Healing Pet Loss - Marianne Soucy

One of my favorite ways of paying tribute to an animal companion is by learning from them. Our animal companions can give us a kind of unconditional love that we rarely find anywhere else, and I cannot think of a better way to honor our angel animal than to try to embody and practice that same kind of unconditional love – and share it in the world.

Since animals have a special place in my heart, I use my “Widening The Circle Of Compassion” article series to focus on animals that in our society that are often abused, ignored, disliked, or in other ways not respected and honored. I see them as fellow living beings, our relations and our teachers on this precious planet Earth. In the first article I shared a meeting with fox, in article number 2, spider shared an inspiring message, and in this 3rd article in the “Widening The Circle Of Compassion” series, we are meeting with deer.

The meeting

One morning I had to leave on the bus early to reach a train. It just so happens that I missed the bus, but fortunately I had a chance to get a ride by car. On the way to the train there is place with a little hill with limited visibility and where cars usually go too fast. In the middle of the road was a dead deer. It was a heartbreaking sight. There were many cars behind us, and we couldn’t stop or do anything.

When I get on the train I take a few minutes to get as centered and as quiet inside as is possible in a crowded train.

Then I find myself at the place where the dead deer is lying. Its spirit is nearby. My spirit helper offers the deer some healing, and after a little while, the sky opens beside us, and coming out from a beautiful place of light is a big spirit deer. It comes to meet and guide the newly deceased deer into the light.

The big spirit deer thanks us for our compassion and says that our act of compassion means a lot to them, and that now the deer who just had died, could go and tell all the other deer that are dying now (many violently because of the start of the hunting season) that there are humans out there who do care and have compassion. The big deer tells us to keep up the work – to keep making ripples of compassion – and I watch them both walk into the light.

Action step

Every little act of compassion matters, so if you see a dead animal, it does make a difference to it – and many others – if you take a few minutes to connect with the spirit of the dead animal and ask for help for it to be healed and guided to where it needs to go in the afterlife.

Synchronicities

By the way, did you notice the synchronicities in this incident? To me it felt like I was late because I was meant to meet the deer. I would not have seen the deer if I had been on the intended bus, but because I happened to miss the bus and was later than expected, I saw the deer and could ask for help for its spirit.

Have you experienced an unexpected event where you had the opportunity to widen your circle of compassion? I invite you to share you experiences in the comments section below.

Comments

  1. Vivian says

I have always felt sadness when I saw a dead animal and very helpless that I can not help them. They are beautiful creatures of God. So when I see a dead animal I ask God and the Angels to bless them with the intent their souls are taken into the Divine Light.
